Adele Knall (*non-binary) is an interdisciplinary artist, musician, curator, and organizer based in Vienna and Mexico City. Their work encompasses sound, performance, installation, sculpture, DIY electronics, radio, and experimental media, and deals with movement, hybridity, resistance, error, and underrepresented voices. As co-founder of the queer synthesizer lab Sounds Queer?, Knall leads workshops, jams, and performances to make electronic music more accessible. Since 2014, Knall’s sculptures and installations have been on display in numerous European museums and galleries, followed by exhibitions in other countries, such as Knall’s solo exhibition “I’m gonna hang your tears to dry – ¡Grita y Lora!“, which was on display in Mexico City in 2024 and deals with collective trauma through ”tears” made of bronze and aluminum. Knall has been awarded the Austrian Radio Prize for Adult Education and the European Human Rights Prize and is frequently invited to participate in national and international events, including the Biennale di Venezia, the Kunsthaus Wien, Ex-Teresa, and the Forum Cultural de España in Mexico. Knall’s practice combines queer perspectives, social criticism, and collaborative engagement, using sound and art to question hierarchies and devise alternative forms of collective experience.
