(Colombia, 1972) is a transdisciplinary artist and media technology historian. He currently serves as an Associate Professor in the Arts and Humanities School at the Open University of Catalunya (Barcelona, Spain). Burbano holds a Ph.D. in Media Arts and Technology from the University of California, Santa Barbara. His work has been exhibited at prestigious venues including ISEA and Ars Electronica and is part of the permanent collections at ZKM and MEIAC. His research focuses on: Media history and media archaeology in Latin America and the Global South; Historical and cultural impact of computational technologies; and 3D modeling of archaeological sites. Burbano has delivered keynote speeches at various academic events, including MAH and Towards an Automated Art?. He was appointed as ACM SIGGRAPH 2024 Chair and is the author of the book “Different Engines: Media Technologies from Latin America” (Routledge, 2023). Additionally, he serves as co-editor of the journal Artnodes.
