Dr. phil., works as a free scholar in media and aesthetic communication with a special focus on the cybernetics of art as well as on media aesthetics. She holds lectures and teaches media and art studies at international scientific and art universities. Since the 1990ies she has received a number of research awards and stipends such as the funding award for „AESTHETIC KNOW-HOW. Language – Technology – Media“ (2007 – 2009) by the Vienna Science and Technology Fund and the funding for the artistic research project „Digital Synesthesia“ (2013 – 2016, w/ R. Schnell and R. Schuler) by the Austrian Science Fund.

Since 1985 Katharina Gsöllpointner has published internationally on art and media theory as well as on the transdisciplinarity of arts and sciences. From 1991 to 1995 she was the manager of the Ars Electronica Festival in Linz (w/ P. Weibel). In 2007 she was co-founder of ’LOOP. Institute for Systemic Media Research‘ and since 2010 she is owner-manager of ‘Institut für systemische Medienforschung GmbH’ (Institut for Systemic Media Research Ltd.) in Vienna.

Currently Katharina Gsöllpointner works as a lecturer and researcher at the Department for Digital Art at the University of Applied Arts Vienna, where she carries out the „Digital Synesthesia“ project and teaches on media aesthetics.
