Katja Mayer studied sociology, physics and philosophy at the University of Vienna. Before starting to work as IT consultant, and specializing in the field of science communications, she was employed at Public Netbase Vienna, where she was responsible for content development, research and production of lecture series and exhibitions. The last 2 years she worked at the Information Retrieval Facility, a research platform for search engine science. Currently she is teaching at the Department of Social Studies of Science, University of Vienna, and she has just finished her dissertation: “Imag(in)ing Networks. Epistemic Practices in Visualizing Social Networks”.
