Massive Sounds

On both evenings, concerts will take place at the Vienna Acousmonium in the Alte Werstätte. The focus is on female artists who have been featured in the IMAfiction series or have appeared in the IMA context. The collaboration with Thomas Gorbach has a long history at IMA. As part of a residency at IMA, he produced the paper Das Wiener Akusmonium (2019).

The Vienna Acousmonium was conceived by Thomas Gorbach and realized in collaboration with Marco Schretter and Götz Bury as part of The Acousmatic Project. It builds upon key developments in European loudspeaker orchestras, including the Brussels by Musiques & Recherches, the BEAST from Birmingham, and the tradition of the GRM from Paris, and develops these further in its own unique way. At its core are a mixing console developed specifically for interpretation and a flexible spatial architecture that allows for the interpretive shaping of a wide variety of sonic figures within the space. Thomas Gorbach is continuously refining the instrument, particularly with regard to live performance, ambisonic integration, advanced spatialization, and the exploration of interpretive dimensions of acousmatic and electroacoustic music through spatialization workshops at the annual fall festival ECHOES AROUND ME.
