Memory Music
A tribute to music for reels, discs, tapes, perforated tape and digital storage

What can digital samplers produce in combination with an Edison phonograph? Could turntablists work with mechanical gramophones? What kind of contemporary literature can be created from historical recordings on wax cylinders?

Most of the approximately 300 exhibits in the Phonomuseum Wien can be put into operation. In this collaboration between IMA Institute for Media Archaeology Phonomuseum Wien and the event series Der Blöde Dritte Mittwoch, historical sound storage devices are activated and combined with current methods such as sampling, turntablism, and DIY culture.
