Translucent Layers (2023)

by Verena Mayrhofer

The work was created by manual screen printing on two lenticular sheets measuring 120 cm x 240 cm. By means of half-images, the lenticular technique makes it possible to achieve a tilting effect. The motif consists of fine black lines that simulate thicker bars and appear or disappear depending on the viewing angle. The background is distorted by the plate’s lenses and is therefore hardly recognizable. Depending on their own position, the appearance changes and the individual images are recombined. The individual prints together form a large image, but they are never identical due to manual processing. Streaks, waves and glitches occur.
