Spellbinding Voices
Spellbinding Voices
beguile seduce destroy
In 2025, a wide range of voices will resonate from the sound tower. From the virtual voice of the theremin (1919) – an early attempt to imitate the human singing voice – to the unamplified human voices of Wöd Chor Plus to AI-generated clones of the human voice. Quite similar to the way we hear these different voices in our changing society. Voices that seduce us with their simple shout-out solutions, but also carry the power of destruction within. Even in ancient times, Odysseus had to use a trick to resist being drawn in by the beguiling voices of the sirens: He plugged his crew’s ears, but had himself bound to a mast, leaving his ears open, but making sure that he would not succumb to the sirens’ spell.
