VOICE UP!

At the opening of the StadtLandFluss event, the choir Wödchor plus presents itself as a living installation. The choir brings about 90 singers into the acoustically open staircase of the Klangturm tower. However, does every individual have one voice only? The countless voices communicate with each other, interrupt, imitate, reinforce. They make familiar sounds converge to such an extent that they become unrecognizable.

How are the different voices perceived by the visitors at close range or from the distance? Where does a tune come from, how does it develop? How far does which sound quality of the voices carry, how far does their impact go? The vocal sounds move from bottom to top and back again, they impact each other, they convince, infatuate, absorb each other musically or drown what is going on at other levels – from unison to a polyphonic chaos to a chord and back again to collective silence.

The WÖD CHOR PLUS was founded in 2016 and sees itself as a singing community in which everyone is welcome. Growing out of a collaboration between the Festspielhaus and the Office for Diversity, the choir has also thrived on the interaction of different generations since 2022 at the latest. This year, the community merged with the Chor 50 Plus and became the Wöd Chor plus. Up to 90 singers are part of the sound and the repertoire covers a wide range of musical styles. The choir is conducted by Flora Königsberger and Gerald Huber-Weiderbauer.

Calder Plays Theremin

In the sound piece Calder Plays Theremin Alexander Calder’s sculptures interact with the theremin. This piece is a MoMA Sound Commission and written for Theremin Orchestra in four movements by composer and sound artist Dorit Chrysler.

The performance at Klangturm St. Pölten is based on recordings of this interaction applying theremin, recordings and vocals.

Dzc. & Zanshin

Dzc. (Ivana Dzoic) and Zanshin (Gregor Ladenhauf) refuse to be put into boxes. Their solo projects span Classic House, Breakbeat, Bass Music, Experimental Techno, and Ambient. Their shared passion for percussion-free, elegiac sounds found an outlet in seventeen eleven. Describing their music as „atmospheric expression,“ „lush, impressionistic,“ or jokingly „Romantic Ambient,“ they explore magical sonic spaces and harmonies—an open-minded fusion of acoustic and electronic instruments.

Rheuma3000

Rheuma3000 is an acoustic event; music that may not be music at all; somewhere between language, noise, radio play, electronic music and sound art; fragments of language embedded in beats, stories, threshholds, poetry and broadband bass.

Christian Reiner improvises with voice and language in the broadest sense and stages written and improvised material in his performance. Tamara Wilhelm builds her DIY mini-synthesizers from just a few common electronic components, which surprise with their distinct sounds. Philip Leitner works as a musical parasite with his sample/loop framework. With the help of microphones and antennas, he extracts sounds from the environment and uses them in his real-time arrangements. Ambient noise, electromagnetic emissions or the sound of instrumentalists are used. These artifacts are used to create nested structures, polyrhythmic patterns, and microtonal sound swamps.
