Sonar Park - Presence and Disappearance

Obsolete Media Reassessed

New media age fast.
Technologies overtake one another in rapid turns and confront us with ever more new challenges not just in everyday life but also in art. It often takes only a few years for communication technologies, devices, user interfaces and technical standards to be out-dated – they become obsolete and what’s produced with them can hardly be used anymore. In sound art especially, many people tend to have an eventful relationship with technical equipment oscillating between dependency, misappropriation and nostalgic vintage romantics.

Regarding these phenomena, the exhibition “Presence and Disappearance” creates a dynamic space of experience on natural terrain. With four installations and several performances artists from different perspectives reflect sustainability, reassessment and new use of technologies.
